North Korea’s leader talks about uncle’s execution in New Year speech


The North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has referred to his uncle’s (Chang Song-thaek) execution for the first time in his New Year message. He used the words, “elimination of factionalist filth” to address the execution and regarded it as an event that has bolstered the country’s unity “by 100 times”.

These messages are closely scrutinised by South Korea and such other regional players to get an insight into what to expect from Pyongyang’s military ruler in the days to come.
