Rolling Stone’s has met with criticism and boycott calls over its latest cover treatment and alleged glam photo of Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Rolling Stones has defended itself on Wednesday saying that its cover was within its tradition of “serious and thoughtful coverage” of important cultural and political issues.
The magazine’s readers especially from Boston have slammed the magazine on its Facebook page, alleging that the cover treatment is projecting the accused killer into a “rock star.”
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has also written to Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner in which he accuses the magazine of giving “celebrity treatment” to Tsarnaev and calls the cover “ill-conceived, at best,” and supports the “terrible message that destruction gains fame for killers and their ’causes.'”
