US to step up support to rebels after evidence on Syrian government’s use of chemical weapons


After Barack Obama has announced White House’s plans to arm Syrian rebels due to receiving evidence regarding Syrian government making use of chemical weapons against rebels, there are growing expectations of this being the next big news for some days now. Here are the latest updates on the issue as Assad forces launch Aleppo assault.

10.09 The Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen has appreciated a “clear” statement from US which accused the Syrian regime of chemical weapons use and has called upon Damascus to independently let the UN carry out investigation into the allegations.

09.56 According to activists the fighting in the northern city of Aleppo has reached its peak in past few months.

Syrian government forces backed by Hezbollah fighters have launched attack on rebel-held Sakhour after about a week later from capturing the town of Qusair near the Lebanon border.

Taking advantage of its victory in Qusayr, the Syrian military is trying get back their control over the rebel-held areas in the central provinces of Homs and Aleppo.
