The Indian Supreme Court has put on stay the execution of eight prisoners on death row. The prisoners are convicted in different murder cases and have filed their mercy pleas. The said mercy pleas on which the president takes decision were rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee this week.
An urgent hearing was held late on Saturday evening at Justice P Sathasivam’s residence. The bench also comprised of Justice MY Eqbal. The bench allowed a stay for four weeks in the execution of eight convicts. The eight convicts includes Suresh, Ramji, Gurmeet Singh, Praveen Kumar, Sonia and her husband Sanjeev, Sundar Singh and Jafar Ali.
