The National Zoo has declared on Saturday that a group of scientists and veterinarians had artificially inseminated the Zoo’s female giant panda. Scientists took this decision after natural breeding failed.
The statement issued in this regard said that Mei Xiang (female giant panda) was artificially inseminated with both fresh and frozen semen taken from the zoo’s male panda, Tian Tian (male giant panda). Fresh semen was taken earlier Saturday morning, whereas the frozen semen had been stored since 2003.
Scientists told that Mei Xiang shall most probably breed the coming week after noticing rise in her urinary estrogen levels.
