It wasn’t first such gang-rape
It’s not as if rapes or gang-rapes, so to speak, hasn’t have been occurring in India till now but post the gang-rape of a 23 year old paramedic student on a private bus people (majority of them students) have come out to protest in the capital city of Delhi.
16th December: The girl became victim of gang-rape after she boarded a private bus with her male friend at 9 PM on December 16 after which she was gang-raped, beaten cruelly and pushed out from moving bus on the road.
Protesters came out this time
The Protesters came together in huge numbers at the India Gate to protest against the incident that soon turned violent, prompting the authorities to impose Sec. 144 (Emergency) in areas adjoining India Gate.
25 December, 2012: With stone pelting, tear gas shelling and water cannons many people including the policemen and journalists alike got hurt in the protests. A policeman, Subhash Tomar, died during this protest on 25th Dec. which Delhi Police tried to blame it on the protestors saying that they walked over the lone policeman during protest.
It only became clear later that the policeman’s death was only the result of his heart complication and not the other way round.
Rape victim succumbs to injuries
28th December: After days of suffering and receiving treatment at a world-class hospital in Singapore, the girl couldn’t be rescued. Her body was brought back in the city at wee hours and was cremated during early hours without letting the news spreading across to the enraged protesters.
