Asperger’s dropped from psychiatric manual lead to the Connecticut Shootings

The decision to drop Asperger’s Syndrome by the American Psychiatric Association from its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Psychiatry that will be published in May 2013 has attracted criticism.

In fact the American Psychiatric Association has decided to compile the disease under the category of “autism spectrum disorder”. The way this decision is going to affect people suffering from this disease (that is mild but a high-functioning form of autism) is that they will stay devoid of the treatments necessary to deal with the disease effectively.

The issue became important as investigations ran into the Newton, Connecticut School Shootings and family of the gunman Adam Lanza (20) said that he was suffering from Asperger’s.
