Palestine celebrates as UN votes in favor of non-member observer state status


-The voting on assigning the status of a non-member observer state status to Palestine hasn’t even concluded till now and people in Yasser Arafat square have started celebrating. At 23:00 hours local time, Palentine’s President Mahmoud Abbas speech has just concluded in which he urged the international community that this is the last chance available for Palestine, if two state solution could address the long drawn conflict.

– As the voting results came in favor of giving the observer state status to Palestine with 138-9 votes and 41 states abstaining from the process, Israel and US have promptly registered their disagreement.

– Palestine residents in Ramallah, West Bank came out on the street to celebrate the news in huge numbers

– President Abbas said before the voting process, “Sixty-five years ago on this day, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 181, which partitioned the land of historic Palestine into two states and became the birth certificate for Israel,” and “The General Assembly is called upon today to issue a birth certificate of the reality of the State of Palestine,”
