After firing Mike Brown on Friday, Lakers have appointed Mike D’Antoni without taking consent from Phil Jackson. Official confirmation of the incident took place through the statement of Laker’s spokesperson to that effect on Monday Morning. The contract signed by Mike D’Antoni is multi year contract. Most likely a press conference from Team Lakers might take place on either Tuesday or Wednesday where further details about the contracted would be announced.
The news was first broke out by Los Angeles Times. Sports Illustrated was told by Black that Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss, Executive Vice President Jim Buss and General Manager Mitch Kupchak were all in favor of the decision. According to a source of Sports Illustrated Phil Jackson was “Asking for the moon” to renew his contract with Lakers and resultantly got fired. The Terms of Mike D’Antonio’s contract state it to be a 3 years contract for $12Mn. The option of another year as coach rests in the hands of team management.
The fact that the contract is going to be a four year term is also reported by Associated Press and their source happens to Mike D’Antonio’s agent Warren LeGarie.
