Legendary Dutch Actress Sylvia Kristel of softporn erotic film “Emmanuelle” died while battling it out with cancer in an Amsterdam Hospital. Sylvia Kristel was admitted to hospital in July after going through a heart stroke and was recuperating in the hospital ever since.
Her agent Marieke Verharen said, “She died during the night in her sleep,” Sylvia Kristel was also suffering from drug addiction which complicated her condition.
Emmanuelle was the film that made Sylvia Kristel famous overnight. The movie generated instant public attention in it because of its erotic content. Emmanuelle was released in theatres in the year 1974 and Sylvia Kristel was barely 22 years old at the time of its release.
The role played by Sylvia Kristel in the movie was that of a young woman who goes out on an erotic adventure to Asia. Emmanuelle became successful and was shown for 13 years in Champs-Elysees of Paris. The movie resulted in the outbreak of sexual revolution of the 1970’s and was seen by as many as 350 million people across the world. However, Sylvia Kristel couldn’t ever deal with and keep a check on the fame that came her way at such an early age and often landed her into trouble.
The image of Sylvia Kristel used in the poster of Emmanuelle sitting half naked in a wickerwork peacock chair is still remembered by her fans that included both men and women. According to the dutch media, physical features like short hair, slender frame and innocent face of her naturally aroused erotica in her viewers and soft-core pornography was eventually accepted.
The actress soon got caged in her erotic image and conceded that she just did acting assignments in the 1980s to source money for her cocaine addiction.
Sylvia Kristel was born in Utrecht on 28 September, 1952. Her parents used to run a small hotel near the station. She also wrote that while she was nine years old, she was molested by the manager of their hotel. After winning the Miss Europe TV competition in 1973, Sylvia Kristel shifted to modeling profession at the age of 17.
